We Are the Bears

West Oso High School derives its name from the nearby Oso Bay. “Oso” is the Spanish word for bear, our school mascot. We serve approximately 608 high school students in the ninth through twelfth grades in Corpus Christi, Texas. Our diverse student population weaves a unique cultural tapestry, bringing with it a close sense of community.

Our Mission

The mission of West Oso High School is to develop responsible global citizens who are equipped with the knowledge, understanding, skills, values, and attitudes to meet the demands for college and career readiness.

Our Vision

Cultivating a campus culture that embraces confident, healthy, creative, and socially conscious citizens.

Academics

Students who attend WOHS enjoy the benefit of small class sizes taught by highly qualified teachers. We offer many options, all of which aim to prepare students for a future they choose. From early college and dual credit courses to special education to counseling and college readiness, students receive the education they need to succeed. Please take a moment to check out our academic planning guide for more information.

WOISD Attendance Policy

We require students to attend 90% of the academic school year. After ten consecutive absences, a student may be administratively withdrawn. Parents and students may receive a summons to appear in attendance court.

Programs

Involvement during the high school years provides opportunities to learn new skills and participate in wholesome, recreational activities with other students who enjoy similar activities. Sports, band, mariachi, yearbook, technology, theater, debate—whatever your game is, we have something for you.
